Farah Polato is a lecturer at the University of Padua, where she teaches Filmology and collaborates with the MA Course in Intercultural Studies. As a member of the University Forum on Gender Studies, she has coordinated and taken part in numerous initiatives and conferences. She is on the scientific advisory committee of the book series SPCM (Studi Postcoloniali di Cinema e Media/Postcolonial Film and Media Studies) and is the faculty representative in a cooperation project involving the Education and Research Unit of Languages, Literature, Arts and Communications (UFR-LAC) of the University of Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), with a focus on francophone west-African cinema and on diasporic African cinema.

Her research activities have recently concentrated on processes of identification. Examples of this interest are her work on Belgian director André Delvaux (André Delvaux. Faccio film sono felice, 2008); an essay on the production of director Katy Lena Ndiaye ("Di luce, di acqua e di terra: impronte di donne", in S. Chemotti, Le graphie della cicogna. La scrittura delle donne come rivelazione, 2012); her contributions to the series Soggetti Rivelati (Padua, Poligrafo); and her recent paper “Rachid, Theo, Dagmawi e gli altri. Voci e forme di un nuovo cinema” (in L. De Franceschi, L’Africa in Italia. Per una controstoria postcoloniale del cinema italiano, 2013).
